Germination conditions and plant biology.
Comparative experiments — testing two conditions while holding all other variables constant — are the most direct teaching tool for the concept of a controlled variable. Students who design and run their own comparison experiments internalise experimental control in a way that reading about it cannot achieve.
1. Plant 10 seeds in light. 2. Plant 10 in dark. 3. Water equally. 4. Record germination daily.
